Yulier Rodriguez
Yulier Rodríguez Pérez (b. 1989, Florida, Camagüey, Cuba) is a visual artist known for his politically charged street art and murals. After moving to Havana, he began using the city’s crumbling walls to express the struggles of the Cuban people under the regime. His art challenges the government and seeks to raise awareness of its impact on individuals. In 2017, after being arrested for his activism, Yulier refused to erase his murals, gaining international support from organizations like Amnesty International.
In 2018, he started Regalos (Gifts), a series using discarded materials to create critical, politically engaged works. Despite censorship and surveillance, Yulier continues to create in various mediums, including painting, performance, and film. He co-directed the documentary EXISTEN, which explores the lives of street artists in Cuba.
